About Zacatecas Cafe

The history of Zacatecas Cafe and the people who have made it happen.

Our Story
Who We Are

Established in 1963. Oscar and Josephine Medina opened Zacatecas Cafe in 1963 on the corner of Park and University Ave. The Mexican eatery consisted of three tables, and twelve bar stools that faced the open hot kitchen-there was no air conditioning. Back then there was a loud jukebox and a public telephone that hung over one of the tables. Sometimes the noise and heat were overwhelming, but that didn't stop the crowds that formed during the lunch hour.

Jon Medina and his wife Vicky
Second Generation

Hello Zacatecas fans! On behalf of my wife Vicky and myself Welcome! Many of you are well known costumers; others are sampling our menu for the first time. Here at Zacatecas it is our mission to provide you with unique and genuine Mexican food. Every dish is prepared with the same recipes my Mother created. As we approach our 50th Anniversary we reflect and remember the inspiration, dedication, and hard work. I started at a young age helping my mother cook after school and on weekends. The two of us would combine our ideas and created dishes like the Hamburger Ranchera and Stake picado. Over the years we continued to add more items and specialize in large party catering. Due to high demand and with the help of my Wife Vicky in 1996 we opened the banquet room. Since then we have hosted over 2,000 events.

Liz Farias
Third Generation

Hello my name is Elizabeth Farias and I am the third generation, or as my Dad says "third in command". My childhood evolved around Zacatecas. My weekday afternoons were spent at the restaurant. I would help in the Kitchen Washing dishes. It was the only job I was allowed to do. We were never paid but the experience to know what real hard work was is priceless. Now the years have passed and I still learn everyday. Thanks to my family I can multitask with charm. Next year, 2013 will be Zactecas's 50th Anniversary. This is an accomplishment like no other for our family. Now with news that we are expanding to Banning our future will be brighter. Thank you to all of our customers who have supported us through out the years. Much Love
